General Admission Requirement:
BRIEF OF THE DEPARTMENT:
The Department of Social Science Education was one of the new departments that splited from Former Arts and Social Science Education. The approval for the split came through the University of Jos Senate at its 2ndregular meeting held on the 7th of August 2008 and took effect from the 2008/2009 Academic Session. The need for the split emanated from the fact that, the social science unit formally under Curriculum Studies Education had the largest number of student’s population and was considered the most popular subject area chosen by Educational Foundation students as their teaching subject. Again, this need was necessitated by the fact that virtually over 70% of social science courses especially Social Studies are mounted in the Faculty. Consequently, the issue of examinations and results became monumental and was compounded under the 'new' Department of Arts and Social Science where other units featured. We remain grateful to the University of Jos senate for approval as then and we remain grateful and strong even today.
The Department of Social Science Education offers a four-year full-time programme leading to the Bachelor of Science in Education B.Sc. (Ed), however, direct entry students join at the second year of the programme for a three-year programme.
