Unijos Undertakes Intra-University Collaboration to Boost Security Architecture

UNIJOS UNDERTAKES INTRA-UNIVERSITY COLLABORATION TO BOOST SECURITY ARCHITECTURE

The University of Jos has taken a significant step towards enhancing campus security with a donation of cutting-edge communication equipment to the University’s Security Division by the institution’s Directorate of Information Communication Technology (ICT).

Director of the ICT Directorate, Mr Daniel Yakmut officially handed over the equipment, a set of ten Walkie-Talkie devices to the University's Security Division, marking a substantial contribution to campus safety. In addition to the Walkie-Talkies, Mr. Yakmut announced the deployment of Solar-powered Cameras around the Campus, designed to enhance surveillance capabilities. According to the Director, although the Cameras are limited in number, they represent a strategic move towards improved security measures within the University Campus.

During the handing over ceremony, Mr. Yakmut underscored the importance of collaboration between the ICT Directorate and the Security Division, highlighting that technology can help overcome the challenges posed by understaffing and the extensive nature of the University campus. According to him, the Solar-powered Cameras will record footage for retrieval as needed, adding an extra layer of security.

Responding, the University’s Acting Chief Security Officer, Mr. Agama Solomon Tangni expressed deep appreciation for the ICT Directorate’s support and described the move as an example of exceptional leadership. Mr Tangni emphasized that the integration of the Walkie-Talkies into the University’s security architecture would significantly enhance response times to security issues, compared to traditional Cellphone communication. He noted that the surveillance technology signals a promising advancement in the Security Division's capabilities and expressed gratitude for the increasing support the Security Division has been receiving, welcoming the improvement as a crucial element in maintaining a safe educational environment.

Also contributing, Mr. Joel Gogwim of the ICT Directorate, stressed the importance of intra-University partnerships and noted that collaboration and technological integration are vital for a secure Campus.

Mr Gogwim described the gesture by the ICT Directorate as a proactive approach toward leveraging technology for enhanced security, fostering a safer environment for the Students, Staff, and the wider University community.
