Dr. Augustine Sambo Azi was born in Jos on the 15th of August 1974. His academic journey started at Baptist Private School, Nasarawa Gwong, Plateau State between 1980 and 1985, before proceeding to LEA Lamingo, Jos, Plateau State where he finished with the enviable position of the best graduating student in 1986. Between 1986 and 1991, Augustine Sambo Azi attended United Faith Tabernacle College, Jarawan Kogi, Plateau State, where he came out brilliantly well in all his chosen subjects in the West African Examination Council examination, graduating as the overall best student in Economics and Geography.
In his desire to satisfy his appetite for knowledge, he enrolled at the University of Jos in 1992 and bagged a Bachelor of Science Education (Bsc. Ed) in Economics Education in 1997. He further obtained his Masters of Science (Msc) in Economics in 2009 from the same university, where he graduated as the second overall best graduating student. Thereafter, he proceeded to University of Nairobi, Kenya in 2014, where he acquired his PhD in Economics of Education in 2017. Thus, becoming the first person from Northern Nigeria with a PhD in that area, with specialization in educational financing, budgeting, costing, funding and taxation.
He joined the services of University of Jos in December 2009 as an Assistant lecturer in the Department of Social Science Education (Economics Education unit). Apart from teaching and supervising thesis at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, He has held several responsibilities in University of Jos, some of them include Level Coordinator, Teaching Practice Coordinator, Chief Coordinator, Institute of Education University of Jos, Time Table Officer, member, Faculty of Education exams and scrutiny committee, Departmental Post Graduate Coordinator, Deputy Dean, Directorate of Students Affairs, among others.
Dr Azi is a member of the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria, Primary and Teachers Education Association of Nigeria (PATTEAN), International Association for Economics Educators, Curriculum organization of Nigeria among several others. In 2018, he was awarded as the most outstanding lecturer in his unit. He has published more than 48 articles in reputable journals both locally and internationally.
He is currently the Head of Department, Department of Social Science Education in University of Jos. He is married to Mrs Bridget Azi and the marriage is blessed with four children. Dr. Augustine Sambo Azi is an apostle of learning, a distinguished Economics Educator, an astute teacher and educator, and goggle scholar who is utilizing both foresight and hindsight to accomplish the best for education, humanity and his community.
