On behalf of Staff and Students, I take this opportunity to welcome you to Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences page.
We are fortunate to have dedicated faculty members and support staff, whose diverse areas of expertise and team work, robust curriculum as well as teaching and research facility, create an environment for students to pursue their passion in their chosen professional trainings.
Faculty members show resilience and remarkable dedication to excellence in teaching, research and innovation, community engagement and collaborations.
We continue to seek opportunities that are engaging, as we strategically bring our vision and mission to the frontiers and engage more deeply and meaningfully in collaborative research, innovation and partnerships to address pressing local and global needs.
Before the year 2018, the medical school existed as Faculty of Medical Sciences involved in the training of MBBS,BDS,Nursing sciences,Medical Laboratory sciences and B.Sc Biochemistry students, along with postgraduate programmes to train manpower for the faculty. The Faculty was upgraded to College status following approval by the Senate of the University on September 18th,2018,with the emergence of four(4) faculties in the college: Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Faculty of Health Science and technology, Faculty of Clinical Sciences and Faculty of Dental Sciences.
Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences comprises of departments of Human Anatomy, Medical Biochemistry and Human Physiology for the teaching of basic health science courses to MBBS,BDS, Nursing, Medical Laboratory, pharmacy, veterinary, Physical and Health education students, while department of Biochemistry is involved in the training of Bachelor of science degree in Biochemistry. Postgraduate programs also exist in all the departments for training in Masters and Doctoral degrees. Postgraduate Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics is also offered.
The method of teaching are hybrid(online and physical). The courses are in modules which include lectures, practical sessions, videos, tutorials, seminars and research project report presentations.
Staff are actively engaged in various multidisciplinary researches that have earned many research grants especially the TETFund National Research Fund(NRF) grants. There are a number of research collaborations and partnerships, journal publications in reputable journals, published books and book chapters. Staff receive support to attend national and International conferences. Staff development and training system also exists to help build critical mass of very competent staff for service delivery.
Presently, the faculty is locate on the Bauchi Road campus of the university.
