Unijos VC Reaffirms Institution's Preparedness to Host NUGA Within Agreed Time Frame

UNIJOS VC REAFFIRMS INSTITUTION’S PREPAREDNESS TO HOST NUGA WITHIN AGREED TIME FRAME

Vice-Chancellor, University of Jos, Professor Tanko Ishaya has reaffirmed his commitment to create a conducive atmosphere for the successful hosting of the forthcoming Nigerian Universities Games Associations (NUGA) competition in the University of Jos.

Professor Ishaya stated this while receiving the NUGA Executive Committee led by its President, Dr Engr Mohammed Bawa on a courtesy visit in his office at the Administrative Building, Naraguta campus.

The Vice-Chancellor assured that the University is redoubling efforts to ensure that all the facilities required for the competition are put in place by February 2025.

Professor Ishaya was optimistic that the competition will be the first of its kind in the history of the NUGA festival and expressed gratitude to the NUGA officials for the detailed evaluation and assessment of the state of the University’s current facilities towards ensuring that whatever is needed for a successful games is provided.

He noted that the competition will not only be beneficial to the University community but also to Plateau State as the event will boost the State’s revenue profile and open up more investment opportunities.

Earlier, the NUGA President, Dr Mohammed Bawa congratulated the Vice-Chancellor on his recent appointment as the Alternative Chairman of the Committee of the Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Federal Universities.

Bawa stated that the purpose of the visit was to evaluate and assess the state of the facilities for the NUGA competition and to let the University know that the NUGA Executive Committee will stick to the April and May 2025 date of the competition.

The delegation pledged to collaborate with the University to create an enabling environment for a smooth and successful competition.

Highpoint of the occasion was the presentation of the Vice-Chancellor with a Medal in acknowledgement of the feat recorded by the University during the last Federation of African Universities Games (FASU) held in Lagos where Unijos emerged the overall 12^th best team in Africa, the best position the institution has ever attained in that competition.
