UNIJOS HANDS OVER NEW CONSTRUCTION SITES

Henceforth, Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Electrical fittings must be included in all Concept Designs for new infrastructure in the University of Jos before construction is carried out to align with current global standards.

Vice-Chancellor, University of Jos, Professor Tanko Ishaya stated this during the Site Handover for the construction of some projects at the Lamingo and Naraguta Campuses of the University.

The projects include the construction and Furnishing of Two-Storey Lecture Halls and Laboratories for the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Lamingo Campus, Departmental Office Building at the Faculty of Agriculture as well as the Construction and Furnishing of Deanery at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at all the Naraguta Campus and are all being sponsored by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund) through its 2021 Special Intervention Project.

While appreciating the magnanimity of Federal Government through TETfund, Professor Tanko Ishaya said the projects mean a lot to the University and must be delivered according to laid down specifications.

The Vice-Chancellor reminded the Contractors of the need to imbibe the qualitative factor as their operational model in developing the needed infrastructure that will add value to the quality of Education being provided to Nigerian Students.

The Vice-Chancellor tasked Researchers in the University to be more productive in order to attract Research Grants to the University while also reminding them that their Research output is what will make them relevant in the scheme of things that will ensure the Country’s future is secure.

The University helmsman enjoined the benefiting Faculties to immediately occupy the facilities as soon as they are completed and delivered or risk forfeiting them to other Faculties that are ready to move in at short notice.

Speaking separately, representatives of benefiting Faculties including Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor Joshua Ogaji represented by Dr. Dauda Dangiwa; Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Professor Nuhu Gworgwor and Acting Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Professor Pwanevo Bamaiyi were unanimous that when completed, the projects will add value to humanity by improving the quality of Teaching and Research in the University which will lead to the growth of the entire Educational system.

The Projects are to be executed by Messrs Afribased Projects Limited, Messrs Consolidated Shelter Services Nigeria Limited and Messrs Amber Blaze Limited and are expected to be completed within a maximum period of Forty-Four weeks.

Representatives of the various Contracting Firms, Engr. Terhemen Simeon, Murtala Sani and Mohammed Abdulaziz all assured the University Authorities that they will perform their due diligence and work assiduously towards ensuring that they adequately and speedily deliver on their mandate.

Highpoints at the occasion were the signing of the Contractual Documents and handover of the Project Sites to the Contractors.
