The University of Jos says the institution’s strategic focus is on bridging the gap between Academic learning and practical enterprise. This is through training and capacity building initiatives aimed at yielding substantial outcomes including fostering a culture of innovation and self-reliance within the University as well as its immediate community.

This came to light as the University hosts a transformative training programme on Business Start-Up and Incubation, Robotic Intelligence Equipment Usage and Maintenance at the institution’s Centre for Entrepreneurship Studies, Naraguta Campus. The training, facilitated in collaboration with a Consulting Firm and GIZ training instructors, targets over 50 Staff and Students of the University as part of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) 2023/2024 merged intervention programme.

The initiative is a significant milestone in the University's commitment towards fostering entrepreneurial skills and technological innovation, aimed at equipping Participants with the practical knowledge and tools to identify and leverage on emerging business opportunities. Participants would also gain hands-on experience in operating and maintaining cutting-edge Robotic Intelligence equipment usage and maintenance, essential for addressing contemporary challenges in education and industry.

Speaking at the opening session, Director of the Centre for Entrepreneurship Studies, University of Jos, Professor Emmanuel Oki represented by the Centre’s Administrative and Programme Officer, Mr Isaac Msughter emphasized the importance of the training in contemporary methodologies. Professor Oki charged the participants to approach the sessions with dedication and ensure that the insights gained translate into successful business ventures. The two-week training programme covers areas such as Business Start-up and Incubation where Participants will gain valuable insights into the fundamentals of Business Planning, Marketing, Finance, and Operations to equip them with the tools and knowledge necessary to launch and scale successful ventures.
