WEBSITE ADMINSTRATION AND e-SERVICES (WAS)

The Website Administration and e-Services (WAS) Unit became operational in 2017 following the restructuring the Directorate from a 5-Units to an 8-Units Directorate. The pioneer Head of the Unit was Mr. Joseph Eseyin in 2018, there was a general redeployment of Heads of Units which saw Mr. Eseyin redeployed from WAS to USS while Mr. Ben Jang was redeployed from CIS to WAS. On January 19, 2022, Mr. Abakpa J. took over from Mr. Jang as Head of WAS Unit after another major redeployment of staff of the Directorate.

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

WAS Unit was assigned the following duties and responsibilities upon creation:

  1. Provision, update and maintenance of the University’s web presence
  2. Deployment of a Web Content Management System (WCMS)
  3. Deploy and develop Learning Management System (LMS) tools to support e-learning activities
  4. Deployment and coordination of Computer-Based Test (CBT)
  5. Plan and develop an institutional repository
  6. Provision of plagiarism software (e.g Turnitin) to staff and students
  7. Maintain University’s web servers
  8. Respond to support queries and problems related to the website, LMS and related content
  9. Developing accessible interfaces for those with a range of visual impairments
  10. Provision of Multimedia content, training and support

HOW THE UNIT OPERATES:

The Unit operates on a Team basis. Two Teams were created around the core functions of the Unit. Lead and assistant Lead are appointed while all other staff of the Unit are members of the Teams in other to ensure effective operation.

Web Team: This is responsible for the provisioning, update and maintenance of the university’s web presence. It does this by deploying and managing appropriate Web Content Management System. It also trains end-users of the website to ensure content is up to date, accurate and relevant.

LMS: The LMS team is responsible for deploying and developing LMS tools to support elearning activities. Training faculties on the use of the LMS platform in teaching, research ad assessment. The Team also deploys and coordinates Computer-bases Test for departments.
