VACANCY

POST OF THE DIRECTOR HEALTH SERVICES

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the vacant position of Director Health Services in the University of Jos, Plateau State.

THE UNIVERSITY

The University of Jos, a comprehensive public institution which started as the Jos Campus of the University of Ibadan in 1971 became a full-fledged University in 1975.

The University, which is situated in Jos, capital of Plateau State, a city of serene environment with near temperate climate in Nigeria, is very conducive for learning and research.

The vision of the University is to be a globally rated university providing an excellent educational experience with high impact on the society.

The University has collaboration with many national and international institutions.  It has strong undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in 17 Faculties with a population of 45,287 full time Undergraduate students, 806 Postgraduate Diploma students, 6,846 MSc students and 1,060 full time PhD students.

The University has a full-time academic staff strength of 1,653, senior technical staff of 216, senior administrative staff of 1,544, and junior staff of 604.

DUTIES

The Director of Health Services is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day administration, co-ordination and coordination of the University Health Services. He/She is also responsible for coordinating the treatment of members of staff and their families as well as the students of the University.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Prospective candidates should possess the following:

  1. M.B.B.S., Degree or equivalent medical degree plus NYSC Discharge Certificate or Evidence of Exemption.
  2. Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria or its equivalent.
  3. In addition, he/she must be duly registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria
  4. Must have a minimum of fifteen (15) years post-qualification experience in clinical medicine and public health work in comparable health institution
  5. Applicants must be ICT compliant.
  6. Candidates should not be older than sixty (60) years on assumption of duty.

Qualification in Public Health and Family Medicine and a higher degree may be of additional advantage.

CONDITION OF SERVICE

The appointment is for a single tenure of five (5) years. The remuneration and other conditions of service are as applicable to the post of Director, Medical Services of Federal Universities in Nigeria and as may be determined from time to time by the Federal Government of Nigeria and the University of Jos Governing Council.  Some of the conditions of service are stipulated in the Regulations Governing the Conditions of Service of Senior Staff of the University of Jos.

  7. Working experience;

POST OF THE CHIEF SECURITY OFFICER

Applications are invited from candidates with requisite qualifications and experience to apply for the post of Chief Security Officer in the University of Jos.

Candidates for this position must be capable of developing and maintaining the appropriate security architecture that is capable of protecting lives of staff, students, residents and visitors on Campus and its surroundings as well the assets of the University.

In addition, they must have a clear knowledge of the structure and terrain of the University of Jos Campuses.

The Chief Security Officer is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor:

  • For the day-to-day administration and co-ordination of all Security Services in all the campuses of the University.
  • For regular security briefs, information and advice for appropriate use by the University Administration.
  • The applicants should have exemplary leadership qualities capable of engendering the trust of the University Administration, loyalty of staff and cooperation of the various Communities he will interact with. Applicants must also be confident and proactive.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Candidates applying for the position of Chief Security Officer must possess either of the following:

  1. A minimum qualification of a good first degree or HND in the relevant field from a recognized University. The possession of higher degree (speciality in Psychology or Criminology) and/or an intelligence and crime management background will also be an added advantage.
  2. Must have attained the rank of a Chief Superintendent of Police or its equivalent in the Armed Forces or Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) with 22-years experience: OR a serving University Security Officer not below the rank of a Senior Security Officer with a minimum of 15 years cognate relevant experience.
  3. Computer literacy will be an added advantage.
  4. Clear understanding of contemporary security challenges in Higher Education Institution.
