Unijos Admits Over 60 Foreign Students into its 2024 and 2025 Academic Session

UNIJOS ADMITS 67 FOREIGN STUDENTS INTO ITS CURRENT ACADEMIC SESSION
The University of Jos has admitted 67 Foreign Students from 13 African Countries into the institution for the 2024/2025 Academic Session. Among the newly admitted Students are those from Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Niger, Cameroon and South Sudan. Others who are poised to further their studies in the University of Jos are from Sierra Leone, Gambia, Togo and Zimbabwe, among other countries. They were admitted into Undergraduate programmes such as Medicine and Surgery, Economics, History and International Studies as well as Computer Science. Other are in Law, Criminology and Security Studies, Nursing, Accounting, Business Management and Pharmacy.
In a brief ceremony to welcome the Students to the University, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tanko Ishaya expressed the University Administration’s deep commitment to bringing back the tradition of Students exchange programme at UniJos, a practice that had in the past, significantly contributed to the University's International presence. Professor Ishaya highlighted the importance of fostering global relationships through such programmes, reaffirming the University's dedication to creating a multicultural and academically enriching environment.
The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that admitting foreign Students into the University was not only the result of joint efforts of the University and other stakeholders, but also a far reaching achievement for the University leadership. The foreign Students, he noted, underwent the regular admission process like other Students, which included sitting for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations, alongside other necessary procedures.
Acknowledging the role of the Rochas Foundation College of Africa, the Vice-Chancellor specifically thanked Senator Rochas Okorocha, the Chief Executive Officer of the foundation, for playing an instrumental role in encouraging the Students to choose UniJos after completing their Secondary School Education at the foundation. Professor Ishaya said Senator Okorocha’s efforts have strengthened the University's relationship with foreign educational institutions and intensified its commitment to providing high-quality education to international Students.
The Vice-Chancellor reassured the new Students that the University is dedicated to ensuring their comfort and providing a conducive and peaceful environment for their academic pursuits. He expressed optimism that their stay at UniJos would be both fulfilling and memorable.
Earlier, while handing over the foreign Students to the University Administration, Officer in Charge of Operations at the Rochas Foundation College of Africa, Mr. Ashwe Felix explained that the Students had undergone rigorous training at the foundation, confirming that they were well-prepared for their academic journey at UniJos. According to Ashwe, the Students had been holistically trained and are now ready to pursue the courses they had been admitted into, thereby showcasing their academic abilities.
He praised Senator Okorocha for recognizing the importance of providing foreign Students with the opportunity to experience the richness of Nigeria’s culture, education, and resources. Mr Ashwe noted that upon completing their studies at UniJos, the Students would not only be better equipped academically but would also develop a deep appreciation for Nigeria's educational system and culture.
According to him, the Rochas Foundation College of Africa, has currently enrolled over 3,000 foreign Students, with more expected to seek admission into UniJos upon completion of their Secondary Education. He expressed confidence that the growing international presence would foster stronger academic ties between Nigeria and the African continent.
The Rochas Foundation College representative expressed gratitude to UniJos for accepting the Students and assured that they would graduate with excellence, thus contributing to the global reputation of the University and the Nigerian education system.
Dean of Students Affairs, University of Jos, Professor Chris Piwuna, represented by Mr. Ibrahim Tella, congratulated the Students on their successful admission into the University and expressed excitement at having them as part of a vibrant academic community.
Professor Piwuna emphasized the importance of adhering to the rules and regulations of the University, urging the Students to remain law-abiding and conduct themselves with integrity throughout their academic journey. He encouraged them to familiarize themselves with the University's guidelines to ensure a smooth and successful stay at UniJos.
The Dean called on them to always feel at home within the University’s environment, saying any issue or concerns they may have should immediately be brought to the attention of the University authorities. He emphasized that the University is committed to supporting their academic and personal well-being alongside its other Students, and open communication would be key in resolving any challenges they may encounter.
