Area of Specialisation: Professor Ishaya Yohanna Longdet is a Biochemist, Researcher, Team-Lead of Vector and Microbiome Engineering Group and Director, Center for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering in the University of Jos. His research covers Biochemical and Molecular Parasitology, drug discovery and vaccine development against Neglected Tropical Diseases. He focuses on parasite’ genomics, genetic diversity and drug resistance against chemotherapy in human populations. His works connect vector studies to Microbiome genomics and Engineering. He has received many scholarships, grants and awards.
Professor Ishaya Yohanna Longdet was born at Mangu of Plateau State, Nigeria. He attended schools culminating with PhD Biochemistry and many workshops acquiring diverse skills. He served the one-year NYSC. He worked in different organisations and presently in the University of Jos. He has published journal articles and conferences papers around the globe. He has contributed several gene and genome sequences to the NCBI Gene bank database. He has, supervised undergraduate, MSc and PhD Dissertations. He delivered the University of Jos 99th inaugural lecture. Professor Longdet has served as Director, Head of Department, Deputy Director, etc. He won many scholarships, grants and awards. He served as external examiner to many Universities. Professor Longdet is a member of some professional bodies. Professor Ishaya Longdet, is married to a homely, industrious, scholastic and lovely wife, Dr. Peace Sorochi Longdet and honoured with 4 beautiful children: Steve, Benaiah, Penuella and Jedidiah. He loves reading and devotion to God.
