Director, Alumni Relations

The University Governing Council in its wisdom felt that to harness and exploit the vast potentials inherent in alumni, it needed to provide a platform by which alumni, its activities and relationship with their alma mater can be made more visible and viable. It was based on this that the Directorate of Alumni was established to serve as an alternative by which development can be attracted to the University.

The platform provided by the directorate has to a greater extent encouraged alumni as individuals and in groups as well as organized or corporate bodies – such as the Alumni Association (chapters spreads across the country and worldwide) to pull resources both in cash and in kind for the growth, development and progress of the University.

1.    ROLE OF THE DIRECTORATE OF ALUMNI RELATIONS

The role of the Directorate of Alumni relations in the University of Jos includes the following;

i.                    Liaison between the University of Jos and Alumni through outreach, events and recognitions.

ii.                  Build interactive Alumni support for University of Jos and develop activities, programs, projects and initiatives where individuals can assist the University towards achieving institutional goals.

iii.                Attract development and other institutional support drives to the University through influential and strategically placed Alumni.

iv.                 Constant communication with Alumni and keeping them informed about the University and each other.

v.                   Participation frequently in Alumni Association activities.

vi.                 Oversees the Alumni Directorate’s Website and create, maintain and manages’ Alumni database in close collaboration with the ICT Directorate.

vii.               Organizes pre – Alumni activities to mobilize and cultivate the spirit of donations, support and giving among students and be visible in university community events.

viii.             Manages the Alumni Endowment Fund of the University.

ix.                 Partner with relevant units to support the internalisation of the University

x.                   Preparation of annual budget for Alumni Relations.

Apagu Jonah Wabba has emerged as the overall best graduating student in the University of Jos 2019/2020 Session. Jonah Wabba graduated from the Department of Electric Electronic in the Faculty of Engineering with 1st class position, CGPA 4.94. After graduating with a first class in Engineering from the University of Jos, I feel satisfied and fulfilled, knowing that I’ve been able to achieve something very important during my time at the University of Jos. I am also eager to see what is waiting for me out there and how I can play my part in making Nigeria and the world a better place. Overall, I feel satisfied and happy that I’ve been able to achieve one of my targets.

Duamlong set an academic record for graduating as the best student with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.32 at 70 years old, as announced by the vice-chancellor of the university, Professor Tanko Ishaya. The artist is a native of Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau State and has spent his whole life in the sports industry; he will clock 70 years old in July 2023. Baba Duamlong was a one-time coach of Nigeria’s senior football team, Super Eagles. In this interview with The Education Report at his Rantiya residence in Jos, while painting some artworks, he gave insights into his switch to the world of art, color and painting, the secret of his academic record of 4.32 CGPA, and his conferment with a first degree at 70 years old.

A Nigerian lady, Haruna Abigail Awadzi who graduated top of her class has attributed her academic feat to the grace of God, hard work, and determination to succeed against all odds. Awadzi from Arikpa, Nasarawa State emerged as the Best Graduating Student (BGS) in Pharmacy from the University of Jos. Speaking with n-Mirror after her oath-taking and induction as a Pharmacist, Awadzi said she had to deny herself of several social activities and concentrate on her studies coupled with the help of God to sustain this enviable educational attainment. The UNIJOS Best Graduand, however, noted that achieving the feat would have been impossible without the sacrificial support of her parents as well as the favorable disposition of her lecturers who are always willing to help their students
