UNIJOS RECEIVES HIGH-TECH EQUIPMENT WORTH ABOUT 50 MILLION NAIRA TO BOOST ENTREPRENEURSHIP INITIATIVES
The University of Jos has taken delivery of state-of-the-art equipment worth about Fifty Million Naira (₦50,000,000) to enhance vocational skills development and promote entrepreneurship endeavour among the citizens. The equipment are to facilitate manpower development in areas such as Photography, Cinematography, Tailoring, Digital Studio Production, Printing, Graphics Design and Robotics, among others, through the institution’s Centre for Entrepreneurship Studies.
Unveiling the equipment for deployment, Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Tanko Ishaya, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund) for the generous and timely intervention.
Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Rahila Gowon, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized the importance of cultivating a maintenance culture among the end users to ensure the longevity and effectiveness of the equipment.
Professor Ishaya commended the Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship Studies, Professor Emmanuel Oki and his team for their hard work and dedication in securing the TETfund intervention. He acknowledged the commitment and effort demonstrated by Staff of the Center in developing the proposal for submission to TETfund, noting that the University Administration has always supported initiatives that contribute to the enhancement of educational and entrepreneurial development.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, “We are fully committed to ensuring that the Center has the tools, resources, and environment it needs to achieve excellence. The success of the Center is the success of the University, and we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that it thrives."
Professor Ishaya further stated that the delivery of the high-tech equipment is part of the broader efforts by the University to strengthen its entrepreneurship programmes and contribute to the economic development of the Plateau State and beyond. He added that the University aims to empower its Students and members of the community with the skills, resources, and knowledge to become leaders in business and technology, with the ultimate goal of contributing to the socio-economic transformation of Nigeria.
Earlier, Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship Studies, University of Jos, Professor Emmanuel Oki, explained that the equipment had been acquired following the successful approval of a proposal submitted to TETfund by the Center. According to Professor Oki, the new equipment will significantly enhance the Center’s ability to offer services that meet the needs of not only the Unijos community but also the broader public.
Professor Oki further emphasized that the equipment will help elevate the Center’s capabilities, enabling it to become a revenue-generating hub within the University. He expressed the University’s commitment to providing practical solutions to societal challenges through the development of entrepreneurship skills.
According to him, the high-tech equipment are expected to be deployed in collaboration with other Professional Departments and Directorates within the University, enhancing both the educational experience for Students and impacting on the Center’s outreach activities.
The new equipment include Star Link Internet Service, Pro SDI and HDMI Wireless Video Transmission System, portable 6-Channel Switcher, SDI & HDMI Video Switcher with USB streaming, 15.6" Display Monitor and External Recorder. Also procured were an Industrial 3 thread Weaving and Overlock Machine, Industrial Power Steam Iron, Fabric Cutting Machine as well as Video Ring Light among many others.
With these new resources, the University’s Center for Entrepreneurship Studies is poised to play a pivotal role in equipping Students and the wider community with the skills necessary to thrive in an increasingly entrepreneurial world. This latest development underscores institution’s ongoing efforts to promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development, while fostering a conducive learning environment for Students and members of the community to acquire practical skills that will empower them to become active contributors to the economy and society.
