UNIJOS ALUMNUS APPOINTED COUNTRY AMBASSADOR FOR MODEL COMMONWEALTH SUMMIT 2025
A 2023 First-Class Graduate of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Jos, Godwin Raphael Olamofe, has been appointed as the Country Ambassador for the Model Commonwealth Summit 2025. The summit is scheduled to take place in Accra, Ghana, from 4th to 6th September 2025.
This prestigious appointment was made by the Directors of the Organisation for Policy and Development (OPLD), a body known for its commitment to equipping youths with essential skills necessary for impactful policy formulation and implementation. Godwin Olamofe's role as Country Ambassador carries a one-year term, with the potential for annual renewal.
The Model Commonwealth Summit serves as a vital platform to empower the youth of the Commonwealth by simulating the activities of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meetings (CHOGM) and related institutions. As the representative for Nigeria, Olamofe will spearhead efforts to promote the summit's vision and objectives throughout the nation. His responsibilities include mobilizing youths and youth groups, orchestrating events, and ensuring active Nigerian participation in the summit. He is further tasked with providing valuable feedback and insights, shaping the Summit's agenda and influencing its outcomes.
Olamofe's appointment is a testament to his academic excellence and leadership potential. His role will involve substantial collaboration with stakeholders, primarily youths, to organize preparatory activities, thus fostering increased engagement and creative input towards the summit.
The Organisation for Policy and Development (OPLD) recognizes the immense potential within young leaders and by offering training in Leadership, Communication, Decision-making, Team Building, and Conflict Resolution skills, OPLD aims to create a cadre of proficient youths poised to lead effectively in diverse contexts. This achievement highlights the growing recognition of Unijos graduates on global platforms and reinforces the institution's position as a key player in international youth development initiatives.
