Dr Tina Odinakachi Iirmdu

Dr Iirmdu holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (2017) and Master’s in Environmental and Resources Planning both from the University of Jos, Nigeria (2011) and a Doctorate degree in Geography and Environmental Studies, Stellenbosch University, South Africa (2022). She specializes in tourism geography, crisis management and research methods in geography. She is also an alumnus of the University of Jos and Stellenbosch University. Dr Iirmdu is a registered member of the Association of Nigerian Geographers (ANG), Society of South African Geographers (SSAG), Hospitality and Tourism Management Association of Nigeria (HATMAN), Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) and Platinum Member International Model United Nations (IMUN).

Along with researching the tourism industry, Iirmdu’s research interest covers tourism management, tourism development and crisis (pandemics) management in the tourism industry. Dr Iirmdu who has taught for over a decade has over 15 publications to her name and has participated at national and international conferences. She was the Departmental Postgraduate Studies Desk Officer. She is an Editorial Board Member, International Journal of Education, Humanities and Multidisciplinary Research. She also serves as a committee member of the Departmental Committee for NUC-CCMAS curriculum development for Geography and Planning. In 2022, she served as a Leadership board member at Stellenbosch International Fellowship (SIF), Stellenbosch, South Africa. She is a trained and certified writing consultant and currently serving as the secretary of the quality assurance committee of the department of Geography and Planning, University of Jos, Nigeria.

She is the recipient of multiple scholarships. She is an award recipient of the 2019 Integrity Icon of Nigeria awarded by Accountability Lab Nigeria in collaboration with McArthur Foundation and Ford Foundation. She is also one of the Award Winners, Female Support Initiative (FSI) awarded by the Jos-Carnegie Partnership, University of Jos, Nigeria (2002-2005).

Education
