A– Career

  • Has 40 years of teaching experience at tertiary level of education.

    1 year at College of Education, Minna, Niger State   1977-1978

    2 years at School of Preliminary Studies, Keffi, Nasarawa State 1978-1979; 1985-             1986

   10 years at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria        1986- 1996.

   25 years at University of Jos                                1996 -2021

         2 years at University of Jos (on Contract)            2022 to date.

Specialist in English as a Second Language/ Linguistics / Composition.

  • Is a teacher trainer, researcher, and consultant providing practical and achievable methods, strategies and techniques for teaching English as a Second Language. Has also spent years providing both in service teachers with continuing teacher professional development workshops for teaching English language at both primary and secondary school levels. The workshops provided the teachers with current teaching trends and pratices in the field of English teaching.
  • Has been engaged in the Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Programme twice that brought a foreign scholar from Winston Salem University, U.S.A for a period of 90 days each time. The programme was designed to upgrade the Post graduate students in English at the Masters and the Ph. D levels in trends in teaching and research. Teaching staff were also engaged in activities like mentoring graduate students and junior faculty for better performance and productivity.
  • Has conducted action researches that have provided solutions for some of the teething problems second language teachers and their students encounter.
  • Has provided inspirational mentorship and examplanary dedication to work as a Head of Department, Arts Education Department and more so after this period to date. Was once the Examination Officer for two tenures (2007-2010, 2010- 2012 when I ensured that all students results were presented in time without missing out on any result. Has been Faculty Accreditation Secretary for 6 years.
  • Taught postgraduate courses at both Masters and Ph. D levels. Supervised several Masters and Ph. D students.
  • Belongs to 3 International Professional Organisations (T.E.S.O.L; ILA and Pan-African Reading Association) and 3 National (National Association of Teachers and Researchers in English as a Second Language (NATRESL) and Teacher Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).
  •  Has published over 30 articles in peer review journals and chapters in books.        

B. Community Service

             Prof. Sabina Hassana Gomwalk

  • Is an Alumnus member of the Carnegie Africa Diaspora Fellowship that is engage in helping faculty and postgraduate students in Universities in Africa to better understand and improve their field of study and how they teach.

Was actively involved at the community level 

  • Resource Person, World Bank Workshop on “Innovative Strategies for Attaining Gender Equity in Basic Education” in Plateau State, 2002.
  • Resource Person, UNICEF/ NTI Book Writing Workshop for “Primary School English Teachers Handbook “. 2002.
  • Resource Person, World Bank Workshop on “Innovative Strategies for Attaining Gender Equity in Basic Education”, Borno State. 2003.
  • Actively involved in Catholic Women Organization leadership, giving talks,

Seminars and Christian charity etc.

  • Consulting Editor, to Association of Women in Colleges of Education (WICE Journal) 2004
  • Resource Person, UBEC Workshops on re-training of Primary School Teachers in Plateau State 2006-2010.

C. Summary:

     Prof. Sabina Hassana Gomwalk remains committed to the Nigerian Educational system through her research, professional training and selfless service to the industry.
