Dr. Isaac Amechi Onyimba
Senior Lecturer

Research Interest:       Applied Microbiology

1.    Investigating the use of microbial consortia and enzymatic processes to convert agricultural residues and agro-industrial byproducts into value-added products including bio-feeds, biofertilizers, biofuels, and biochemicals

2.  Exploiting the bio-preservative properties of microbial cultures and their antimicrobial metabolites as a sustainable alternative to the use of chemical preservatives in shelf-life extension and enhancement of safety of perishable foods

3. Screening of microorganisms from diverse environments for their enzyme-production potentials with the view to developing efficient biocatalysts for environmental and industrial applications

Dr. Isaac Amechi Onyimba is a Senior Lecturer of Applied Microbiology involved in teaching, research, and community service at the University of Jos, Nigeria. His research focuses on exploring and harnessing the biodegradative properties and enzymatic capabilities of selected microorganisms from diverse environments towards bioprocessing of agricultural residues and agro-industrial by-products. His research experience also includes the use of microbial cultures in food fermentations for enhancing shelf-life and safety of foods. Dr. Onyimba is a member of the Nigerian Society for Microbiology, Biotechnology Society of Nigeria, and the Organisation of Professional Biotechnologists and Bioengineers of West Africa. He has 50 publications in reputable national and international journals.
