Babasoji Percy Omoniwa, born on August 22, 1982, in Iyara, Kogi State, Nigeria, is a distinguished academic and researcher in the field of biochemistry. He hails from the Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State and holds Nigerian nationality. Omoniwa is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Science Laboratory Technology, Faculty of Natural Sciences, at the University of Jos. He aspires to achieve the rank of Professor, focusing his research on ethnopharmacology, reproductive biochemistry, and biochemical toxicology.

Omoniwa's educational journey began at St. Paul’s Primary School in Iyara, where he obtained his Primary School Leaving Certificate in 1994. He then attended St. Barnabas’ Secondary School in Kabba, earning his West African Senior School Certificate in 1999. He proceeded to Kogi State Polytechnic in Osara, passing the Interim Joint Matriculation Board Examination in 2000. Omoniwa pursued higher education at the University of Ilorin, where he earned a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Biochemistry in 2003, followed by a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Biochemistry in 2008, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biochemistry in 2019.

Omoniwa's career began with an industrial training stint as a Quality Control Laboratory intern at Seven-Up Bottling Company in Ikeja in 2002. He served his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year as a science and computer teacher at BYCAS Primary School in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, from 2004 to 2005. He then worked as a Senior Quality Control Chemist at Rajrab Pharmaceuticals Ltd in Ilorin from 2008 to 2009 and as a Quality Control Chemist at Biomedical Ltd in Ilorin from 2009 to 2010. In 2010, Omoniwa joined the University of Jos as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Science Laboratory Technology, and has risen through the ranks to the position of a Senior Lecturer. He also completed a sabbatical as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry at Landmark University, Omu-Aran, from 2022 to 2023.

Throughout his tenure, Omoniwa has taken on numerous administrative responsibilities, including roles as Examination Officer, ICT Officer, and various level coordinators in the Department of Science Laboratory Technology at the University of Jos. He has been a member of several committees, including the SIWES Committee, Accreditation Committee, and Field Trip Committee. In 2023, he served as the Acting Head of the Department of Biochemistry at Landmark University.

Omoniwa has extensive teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, covering a wide range of biochemistry courses. He has supervised numerous undergraduate and postgraduate projects, with research interests spanning the toxicological and pharmaceutical biochemistry of natural products.

Omoniwa is an active member of the Nigerian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (NSBMB) and the Society for Experimental Biology of Nigeria (NISEB). He has published extensively in reputable journals, contributing significantly to the fields of ethnopharmacology and biochemical toxicology. His research has been recognized with awards, including the International Foundation for Science Research Grant in 2014.
