Dr. Dongurum is an early career faculty member with broad, and world-class skills in aspects that relate to research and teaching in Health Geography, particularly population resource planning and environmental epidemiology. Over the years, he served in social organisations, the academia, and involved in community service where he acquired a wide range of experience developing him a potential leader. Powered by the drive to add value to humanity, he pursuit good quality education and currently obtained bachelor’s and master’ degrees in Geography and Population & Manpower Planning from the University of Jos, Nigeria. His growing interest in learning, teaching, and research inspired craving for higher degree, which led to earning a PhD in Health Geography from the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom.
Dr. Dongurum’s research activities have made major contributions to addressing the most significant threats to public health. He is particularly focused to exploring the nexus between human population, environment, and health to providing key insights into the socio-ecological system and dynamics shaping continued emergence and re-emergence of diseases, and their impact on control efforts. In 2016 he was awarded a fully funded PhD scholarship by the Needs Assessment Fund of the University of Jos and studied at the Department of Geography, University of Sheffield in the UK. In 2018, he accessed Grant for Training and Mentoring for Nigeria Academics to enhance Healthcare Research from the STAMINA Project of the Collage of Medical Sciences, Jos University Teaching Hospital/University of Jos - Nigeria. In 2014, he co-investigated Access to Antiretroviral Therapy (ART), Opportunistic Infections (OIs) Treatment and HIV/AIDS Services for the Scripture Union West Africa (SUWA) and Tearfund, Nigeria.
He has worked as a research associate on numerous national and internal research projects such World Bank, GTZ-Nigeria, Nigeria Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), and UNICEF funded projects on HIV/AIDS, Evaluation of ARV systems in the Nigerian Health Sector, Reproductive Health of Young People in Nigeria, Fadama III Projects, and the Geography of Plateau State. Others include the Centre for Environmental Resource and Hazard Research, department of Geography and Planning, University of Jos, All African Postgraduate Research Group (AAPoRG), University of Sheffield UK, and African Journal of Geographical Sciences. Dr. Dongurum is member of professional bodies that include: a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society; Reciprocal Fellow of Association of American Geographers; Full Member of the Association of Nigerian Geographers, and a Fellow of the Population Association of Nigeria.
