She is the second female to be appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor after Prof Teresa Nmadu the former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) and the first female to be appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) in the history of the University of Jos.
Prof Rahila Gowon hails from Pankshin Local Government Area, Plateau State.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Rahila Plangnaan Gowon is a Professor of English Education. Until her appointed she was the Director of University of Jos Institute of Education, Kunga, Naraguta Campus.
Professor Rahila Gowon has served in many capacities both within and outside the University including as member of the Visitation Panel constituted by the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, to the Federal College of Education, Obudu, Cross River state. She was also a member of the Governing Board of the National Universities Commission (NUC).
