NIJOS: PROFESSOR MAIMAKO DELIVERS 89 BUILDING PROJECTS

Outgone Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Seddi Sebastian Maimako says his administration had a transformative effect on the global reputation of the University.

Maimako explained that the University can now boast of infrastructural facilities that are commensurate with its standing as a leading Nigerian University.

Professor Maimako stated this during a Valedictory Address and Press Conference as part of activities marking the end of his Five-year tenure in office as the 9th Substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos.

The event which was held at the Faculty of Social Sciences' Auditorium, Naraguta Campus, had critical stakeholders of the University, family, friends and well wishers in attendance.

The former Vice-Chancellor said Staff and Students have been provided with the requisite working tools that should stimulate their creative energies for optimum productivity and enable them relate with their peers on an equal footing without feeling intimidated.

According to Maimako, apart from the Eighty-Nine completed projects, Eight more were ongoing and awaiting completion in no distant time.

Reviewing his stewardship during his Five years in office, Maimako explained that there has been remarkable improvement in Academic Programmes, Research Activities, Admissions, Students matters, Staff Development, welfare and industrial harmony.

Also as part of his contributions were improved health services, renovation of the burnt University Library, ICT development among others.

The outgone Vice-Chancellor while appreciating all those who contributed to the success of his administration, however enumerated some challenges to include over burdening of Federal Universities with oversight functions, issues of funding, insecurity, continues encroachment on University land among others.

Acting Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), University of Jos, Professor Gray Goziem Ejikeme while praising Professor Maimako for an eventful tenure said he has served God and humanity excellently.

Ejikeme promised to improve on the gains so far achieved and to work towards implementing policies that have direct bearing on stakeholders of the University.

Also speaking, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Tanko Ishaya appreciated all those who contributed to the success story while praying God to help Professor Maimako in his future endeavours.

Goodwill messages were presented by some Media personalities including Station Coordinator, ICE 96.1 UJ FM, Mr Daniel Mallum; Chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalists' Correspondents Chapel, Mr Gyang Bere as well as Bello Lukman of Unity 93.3 FM, Jos.
