Dr. I. S. Laka is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Geography and Planning, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, University of Jos. He earned his BSc degree in Geography and Planning in 1994, his MSc degree in Environmental Resources Planning in 1999 from the University of Jos; a PGD in Geographical Information Systems in 2003, and his PhD degree in Environmental Resources Planning in 2023. He is a member of the Association of Nigerian Geographers (ANG), the Geoinformatic Society of Nigeria (GEOSON), and the Nigerian Environmental Society (NES). Apart from teaching, he is versatile in a wide range of research with interests in Flood Risk and management, Landuse and land cover change, Climate extremes/changes, and environmental impact assessments and audits. He also has great hands-on knowledge of geographical tools including Remote sensing, air photo interpretation, and Geographical Information Systems. Laka has taught for about two decades within the university sector with well over twenty research publications to his name. He has also participated in several conferences.
