ENTOMOLOGICAL SOCIETY OF NIGERIA (ESN) TO HOLD 55TH ANNUAL CONFAB IN UNIJOS

Vice-Chancellor, University of Jos, Professor Tanko Ishaya has congratulated the Jos-Vom Branch of the Entomological Society of Nigeria (ESN) for securing the rights to host the 55th Annual Conference of the Association in the University.

The Vice-Chancellor was speaking when he hosted the National Executive Council (NEC) and some members of the Jos-Vom Branch of the Association led by the Chairperson, Professor Georgina Samuel Mwansat (FZSN) in his office at the Administrative Building, Naraguta Campus.

Following the hosting rights granted to the Jos-Vom Branch of the Entomological Society of Nigeria (ESN) by the National Executive Council (NEC), some members of the Jos-Vom Branch led by the Chairperson, Professor Georgina Mwansat paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Tanko Ishaya in order to officially present the award letter from ESN NEC and to intimate him of the plans towards the Conference scheduled to hold on the first week of October, 2025.

Professor Ishaya praised the Branch’s contribution to the Association, recognizing its dedication which secured the rights to host the prestigious event.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed optimism regarding the activities taking place in 2025 at the University, including the upcoming National Universities Games Association (NUGA) Festival and assured the delegation of his Administration’s full support as he underscored the importance of publicizing the Conference to enhance its visibility and impact.

Speaking earlier, Jos-Vom Branch ESN Chairperson, Professor Georgina Mwansat said in keeping with its objective, the Society has since its inception in 1965 been playing an important and necessarry role in promoting Research and Development of Entomological Science in Nigeria through its various activities.

Professor Mwansat explained that through the Society's Annual Conferences and important Symposia held at different Branches in Nigeria, many Entomologists have been able to communicate their Research findings to their colleagues for critical discussion, since such platforms provide a forum for Researchers to continually update their knowledge about the country’s Entomological problems. According to Professor Mwangsat, the ESN believes it has its responsibility to provide an open forum for discussion of Entomological issues including problems and achievements affecting Agriculture, Human and Animal Health.

In his contribution, ESN Jos-Vom Branch Treasurer, Dr. Hasley Livinus Njila expressed heartfelt gratitude to the University Administration for graciously receiving the delegation and solicited for continued collaboration with the University in promoting the study and conservation of insects in Plateau State and Nigeria as a whole.

Entomology is the study of insects and their relationship to Humans, the environment, and other organisms. Entomologists make great contributions to such diverse fields such as Agriculture, Chemistry, Biology, Human and Animal Health, Molecular Science, Criminology and Forensics.

Also in attendance were other notable members of the ESN Jos-Vom Branch including Professor Jael Yohanna, Mr. Joseph Ibrahim, and Dr. Longtong Turshak, the Branch’s Secretary.
