About Faculty of Veterinary Medicine
The establishment of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine which was long over - due because of a dearth in Veterinary schools in this region, followed comments by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Dr.Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR in a town hall meeting in Jos in 2010 to the effect that he was surprised that the University was not offering this programme.
Based on the President’s observation, the Faculty was established in 2013 by the University. After due process for the establishment of the programme was fully complied with in line with the vision and mission of the University, the Faculty is designed to be a Centre of Excellence for human capital development and cutting edge research and extension services for the state and nation in a globally competitive manner. The curriculum for the undergraduate programme is designed to address the history, principles and contemporary issues in Veterinary Medical practice, animal health and production in the country.
I am happy that the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has come on board after much work has been put in place, and that it will meet the aspirations and yearnings of the immediate community and catchment zones of the University. On behalf of the University Council, the Senate and the entire University community, I welcome the teaching, non-teaching Staff and Students of the Faculty, and I hope you will key into our principle of discipline and dedication in line with the motto of the University.
