HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF JOS
The University of Jos is located in Jos the capital city of Plateau State, Nigeria. It is one of the 2nd generation Federal Universities in Nigeria. According to the National Universities Commission (NUC) 2015 report, the University ranks 15th among the Nigerian Universities. It is an institution of great standing that has produced graduates that are contributing positively to the growth and development of Plateau State and Nigeria as a whole; graduates that are considered worthy in character and learning. It can be best described as a colorful and diverse institution since it caters for a population of students as well as staff that cut across the 36 States of the Federation. Discipline and Dedication is the school’s motto.
The University of Jos was first established as a satellite campus of the University of Ibadan in 1971. It became an independent University in 1975, with Professor Gilbert Onuaguluchi as its first Vice-Chancellor. The current Vice-Chancellor is Professor SeddiSabastianMaimako who began his tenure in June 2016.

ENTRY QUALIFICATION
Candidates for admission into the four-year B.A. French degree programme must possess at least 5 Credit Passes at not more than two sittings including a Credit in English Language, French, Literature in English, Mathematics.
Candidates seeking admission through the Prelim French must obtain all relevant credits for admission into the degree programme. The Prelim programme prepares the candidate to remedy his/her French. In addition, the candidate must pass through JAMB by writing the UTME.
Candidates seeking admission into the three-year B.A. French degree programme must be holders of the N.C.E. or its equivalent in addition to at least 5 Credit Passes at not more than two sitting at SSCE/NECO.
