UNIVERSITY OF JOS MOVES TO STRENGTHEN TIES WITH SECURITY AGENCIES

The University of Jos has moved to strengthen ties with Security Agencies in Plateau State in a bid to better protect the lives and property of Staff and Students of the University.

This came to light when the University Management led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tanko Ishaya visited Plateau State Command of the Nigeria Police Force and Office of the Department of State Services both in Jos.

The Vice-Chancellor stated that the purpose of the visit was to appreciate the leadership of both Security Agencies for their continuous efforts in ensuring that the University as well as the entire State remains peaceful.

Professor Tanko who sued for greater synergy with the Security Personnel, appreciated their unwavering commitment to issues of peace, safety and harmonious coexistence and assured that the University will provide the necessary support and information needed to make their work easier.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed dismay with the continuous encroachment into University land by land grabbers which is threatening to halt work on the erection of a perimeter fence around the University. According, to him, the project is being sponsored by the Federal Government through TETfund and hopes the issue will be addressed soon to ensure its completion.

Responding, Plateau State Police Commissioner, CP Okoro Julius Alawari said the officers and men of the Force are determined to ensure a serene and tranquil atmosphere that will guarantee peaceful coexistence and socio-economic growth in the State.

CP Alawari said the Force has trained its Personnel on ways of applying both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches wherever applicable and is open for collaboration with the citizens in this regard.

The University Management also visited the Plateau State Command of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Director, Department of State Services (DSS), Plateau State Command, Albert Ogbole assured of the Agency’s support and specifically promised to partner with the University in its security coverage in the build up to the next edition of the NUGA Games being hosted by the Unijos next year.
