Professor Jega was speaking during a familiarization meeting between the newly appointed External members of the Governing Council and the University Management at the University’s Abuja Liaison office shortly after they were inaugurated.
Prof. Jega advised the Council members to see their appointment as a call to service and assured that they would deploy all their resources for the development of the University. The highly acclaimed Scholar and seasoned Administrator stressed the need to drive the University of Jos forward in close collaboration with the University Management and reposition it towards the path of greater growth and development.
The former INEC Boss confirmed that they would be transparent and adhere to the laws governing the University and called on members of the University community to also respect the University statutes as prescribed. The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council appreciated the University Management for its foresight in organizing the interactive meeting and the warm reception accorded to them.
Earlier in a welcome address, the Acting Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Gray Goziem Ejikeme described the event as epoch making and eagerly awaited by members of the University community. He noted that a University cannot function effectively without a Governing Council and described an effective Council as key to the growth of any University.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor who described Professor Jega as a veteran Union leader, an epitome of transparency and integrity and an astute intellectual who cannot be manipulated, appealed to the other members to cooperate with the Council Chairman.
