UNIJOS EMERGE TOPS AT THE NATIONAL ENTERPRISE CHALLENGE (NEC) 2022

The University of Jos has clinched the qualifying ticket to represent the North Central Region at the 2022 National Entrepreneurship Competition. The University achieved the feat by emerging tops at the North Central Regional Zone of the National Enterprise Challenge.

The Competition which is supported by the National Universities Commission (NUC) is an initiative of the Directors of Entrepreneurship Centres across Nigerian Universities and is instrumental in improving the entrepreneurial mindset of Nigerian University Students.

The aim is to enable Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students to start and run business ventures before their graduation in order to be self-reliant and become employers of labour.

The idea behind the competition is for the participants to develop a well conceptualized solution that can respond to the challenges of an identified sustainable development goal and how the idea can be commercialized.

The Project developed by the UNIJOS team was the building of a Telemedical Application for virtual real-time consultancy by Medical Doctors, a platform where upon subscription, Patients and Doctors can have one-on-one live video contact for Medical Consultancy.

At the end of the North Central Zone qualification exercise, Team Unijos represented by Joshua Dakim Solomon clinched the first position while Lawal Michael Kayode from the University of Ilorin emerged second and Abdulmuiz Adam from the Federal University of Technology, Minna came third.

Team Unijos is being provided technical support by the University’s Director, Centre for Entrepreneurship Studies, Professor Bonaventure Haruna, the Deputy Director, Dr. Reuel Dakung, the Administrative Officer, Mr. Isaac Msughter Ahoame and Finance Officer, Mr. Ifeanyi Mara. Others are Mr. McDaniells Albert, Mr. Kefas Kingsley, Mr. Benjamin Sanga and Mr Imade Joseph who are providing assistance in the areas of App Development, Video Editing as well as Content Development.

The competition which is open to current Students across all fields of study at Undergraduate or Postgraduate Levels requires candidates who made it to the final stage to participate at another round of the competition at the National level.
