Korean Embassy To Build Gymnasium in Unijos


FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF KOREA TO CONSTRUCT A GYMNASIUM IN UNIVERSITY OF JOS           

The Federal Republic of Korea is to construct and donate a Gymnasium to University of Jos. This follows a sustained collaboration initiated by the University of Jos Advancement Office with the Korean Embassy.

The Advancement Office, on behalf of the University had earlier invited the Ambassador of Federal Republic of Korea to deliver a public lecture in UNIJOS in 2019 as build-up to the collaboration. This resulted in a donation of the sum of 200,000 Dollars for the construction of the Gymnasium to be sited at the University’s Naraguta Campus.

The project which is to be completed within a 12-week period commencing from Monday, 27th September, 2021, is to be undertaken by a Property Developer, XQUISITE BUILDERS chosen by the University after a rigorous selection process.         

During a brief ceremony at the Korean Embassy in Abuja, Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Gray Goziem Ejikeme lauded the Korean Government for the kind gesture. Professor Ejikeme said the University will strengthen its friendship with the Korean Embassy while seeking more areas of collaboration through Staff and Students exchanges and training as well as development of Information and technology programmes.

Deputy Envoy and Chief of Mission in the Korean Embassy, Kyungwon Bhang, said the Korean Embassy selected UNIJOS for the project as a result of the sustained relationship and friendship developed over time. He explained that the Gymnasium project is the beginning of more collaborations with the University across various sectors and disciplines. He urged the Property Developer to complete the work within the stipulated deadline. The Envoy also enjoined the University Authorities to ensure that the Gymnasium is properly maintained.

Also present at the event were the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), University of Jos, Professor Tanko Ishaya, Executive Director Advancement Office, Nde Yakubu Gomos, University of Jos Liaison Officer in Abuja, Mr James Sambo and the Representative of the Property Developer, XQUISITE BUILDERS, Rinan Danladi Shemu.
