ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR MSc NURSING:

      1. All MSc candidate must possess the undergraduate matriculation requirements of at least five credits (English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics) in ordinary level West African Examination Council/NECO or its equivalent in not more than two sittings.
      2. The candidates must possess RN or RN/RM Certificates in addition to B. Sc Nursing/B.N.Sc. from University of Jos or any other recognized University and must obtain a minimum of second-class lower division with NYSC discharge/exemption certificate. A postgraduate diploma in Nursing or other related disciplines may be an added advantage.
      3. Candidate who has third-class degree from any institution mention in (b) above with NYSC discharge/exemption certificate and possess a post graduate diploma in an area he wish to further his MSc Nursing and spent five years after graduation are eligible to be considered for the programme.

AVAILABLE AREAS OF SPECIALISATION IN MSc NURSING PROGRAMME

Each candidate in the MSc Nursing programme may specialize in any of the followings:

      1. MSc Medical and Surgical Nursing
      2. MSc Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing
      3. MSc Community Health Nursing
      4. MSc Maternal and Child Health Nursing
      5. MSc Nursing Education
      6. MSc Health and Nursing Administration

DURATION OF PROGRAMME

A full time Master of Science (MSc.) Nursing with thesis/dissertation shall run for a minimum period of 18 – 24 months. Additional 6 - 12 months may be added to a candidate that fails to complete his MSc study within the stipulated minimum period. Therefore the minimum period is 18 months (4 semesters or two sessions) while maximum duration is 36 months (six semesters or three sessions).

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR M.Phil/PhD NURSING PROGRAMME

PhD Candidates must possess a Bachelor of Nursing Science (B.Sc Nursing/ B.N.Sc) degree and M. Sc. degree in Nursing or Masters degree in related disciplines (with a minimum WSA of 60% or CGPA of 3.50) from University of Jos or any other recognized university.

Candidates with BSc/BNSc Nursing degree and MSc Nursing or Masters degree in related disciplines with CGPA less than 3.50 or WSA less than 60% from University of Jos or any other recognized university shall be admitted into the M Phil/PhD Nursing Science programme during which the candidate must register and pass all the M.Sc. Nursing courses as required. To continue with the PhD on completion of the course work, such candidate must obtain a minimum WSA of 60% or CGPA of 3.50. All applicants must be registrable or registered by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (i.e RN, RN/RM etc).

Each candidate in the M Phil/Ph.D Nursing programme may specialize in any of the followings:

      1. M.Phil/PhD Medical and Surgical Nursing
      2. M.Phil/PhD Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing
      3. M.Phil/PhD Community Health Nursing
      4. M.Phil/PhD Maternal and Child Health Nursing
      5. M.Phil/PhD Nursing Education
      6. M.Phil/PhD Health and Nursing Administration

DURATION OF M.Phil/PhD NURSING PROGRAMME

      1. A full-time Ph.D programme shall run for a minimum of 6 semesters and maximum of 12 semesters.
      2. A full-time terminal M Phil programme shall run for a minimum of 3 semesters and maximum of 4 semesters.
